Wear OS watch face for nurses
A pulse scale on your wrist
The scale from a nurse’s fob watch, on the watch you already wear. Start on a beat as the seconds hand passes 12 and call it zero, count fifteen more, and read the rate under the hand.
For Wear OS watches. It does not run on Apple Watch.
The pulse scale
Fifteen beats, one number
Start at 12
Catch a beat as the seconds hand reaches the coral mark at 12, and call it zero.
Count fifteen more
Stop on the fifteenth beat.
Read the hand
The number under the seconds hand is the rate in beats per minute.
The seconds hand moves smoothly, so the reading falls between marks rather than jumping.
The scale is a reading aid for counting by hand. The face does not measure your pulse.
The rest of the dial
What else it shows
24-hour time
The digital clock always uses 24-hour time, whatever your watch is set to, the way handovers and charts are written. Day and date sit under it.
Three slots
Battery, sunrise and steps to start with. Swap any of them for something else your watch offers, including its own heart rate if it has a heart rate complication.
Three colours
Ward in white and coral, Theatre in green, and Night shift in a dim red for dark surroundings. You can also switch the pulse scale off.
On the watch
What it actually looks like
Always-on display
Quiet when the screen dims
In always-on mode the pulse scale, the seconds hand and the digital time are hidden. The hands, the hour marks and your three slots stay.
What it does with your data
No account, nothing sent to us
NurseDial is built in the Wear OS Watch Face Format and contains no app code. It does not read sensors itself and sends nothing to us. What the slots show is supplied by your watch.
What it costs
No subscription, no ads and nothing inside it to buy. The price may show differently in your own currency.
Questions
Before you download it
Does it measure my pulse?
No. It is a scale printed round the dial, like the one on a nurse’s fob watch. You count the beats; the scale shows the matching rate in beats per minute.
Why count from zero?
The scale times the gaps between beats. Call a starting beat zero and count fifteen more, and you have timed fifteen gaps. Call the first beat “one” and you time fourteen, and the reading comes out about 7 percent high.
Which watches does it work on?
Wear OS 4 or later. Play only offers it to watches that can run it. It does not run on Apple Watch, Garmin or Fitbit OS watches.
Can it show my heart rate?
Yes, if your watch offers a heart rate complication. Put it in any of the three slots. The face reads no sensors itself.
Can the digital time be 12-hour?
No. The digital line is always 24-hour, because that is how handovers and charts are written. The hands tell the time as usual.
How do I change the colour?
Press and hold the face, then tap the pencil to edit. The first page is the colour, the second is the slots, the third switches the pulse scale on or off.
How do I install it?
From the Play Store on your watch, or from the Play Store on your phone, choosing your watch as the device.
