1. About This Policy

ClearStack Apps ("we", "us", "our") publishes a range of mobile applications. This page is the base privacy policy that applies to all of our apps. A small number of apps that handle especially sensitive data, or that work differently (cloud sync), have their own dedicated policy in addition to this one — see the list below.

Short version: The records, entries, and photos you create in a ClearStack app stay on your device — they are not uploaded to our servers. To keep our apps running we use Google's Firebase (anonymous crash reports and usage analytics) and, on the free tier of most apps, Google AdMob to show ads. Paying users see no ads.

2. What Stays On Your Device

The content you enter — projects, logs, journal entries, calculations, photos, and settings — is stored in a local database on your device. We do not operate accounts or servers that hold this content. A few apps offer an opt-in cloud backup; where they do, it is off by default and the app's own policy explains it. Our two business tools, SiteProof and TurnSnap, do sync data to the cloud as a core feature — see their individual policies for details.

Some apps can use your device's location for a feature you start yourself — for example, measuring the distance of a run in ShoeMile after you tap Start. Where they do, location is read only while that activity is running, is used on your device to work out the result (such as a total distance), and is then discarded. The coordinates and the route you travelled are never stored and never leave your device — only the figure you asked for, like the distance, is saved to your log. If you never start the feature, the app never asks for your location.

3. What Is Sent To Google

By default these Google SDKs run inside our apps and send anonymised data to Google LLC:

  • Firebase Crashlytics — crash logs, stack traces, device model, OS version, app version. Used to find and fix bugs.
  • Firebase Analytics — anonymous app interactions, device model, OS, app version, and approximate location derived from IP. Used to understand how the app is used.
  • Google AdMob (free tier of most apps) — Advertising ID, device model, OS, approximate location, and ad-interaction events, used to serve ads. Paying users see no ads and AdMob is not initialised for them.

In the EU, UK, and EEA, our apps show a Google-certified consent form (UMP) on first launch where you choose whether ads are personalised. You can change that choice at any time in the app's settings.

On iPhone and iPad, iOS additionally asks your permission before an app may use your device's Advertising Identifier to personalise ads across other companies' apps and websites. This prompt appears wherever you are, not only in Europe. If you decline, ads still appear but are not personalised. Either way, nothing you enter in the app — your logs, photos, journal entries, or distances — is shared with advertisers. You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

4. This Website

Everything above is about our apps. This section is about clearstackapps.com itself, which is a separate matter.

Analytics cookies. We use Google Analytics to see which pages people find useful, so we know what to write more of. It is off until you say otherwise. On your first visit you are asked to accept or decline, and nothing is stored on your device unless you accept — declining is a single click and is remembered. If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies (_ga and _ga_57FQ3HQHW4) that record which pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and whether you have visited before. They expire after two years. We never receive your name or email from analytics, and we do not use the site for advertising, so no advertising cookies are set at any point.

Changing your mind. Clearing your browser's cookies and site data for clearstackapps.com resets the choice, and you will be asked again on your next visit.

Contact and enquiry forms. If you send us a message, the name, email address, subject and message you type are emailed to us through Resend, our email delivery provider, and arrive at hello@clearstackapps.com. We keep that email so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation. Nothing you submit is added to a mailing list, and we do not send marketing email. To have a past enquiry deleted, ask us at the address in section 12.

Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes the technical details of every request (your IP address, browser and the page requested) in order to deliver the page and block abuse. This happens for every visitor and is not affected by the cookie choice above, because a site cannot be served without it.

5. Pricing & Purchases

Our apps are free to download. Depending on the app, an optional upgrade is available as a one-time purchase, a subscription, or both. Purchase status is verified by Google Play Billing and stored on your device. We never see or store your payment-card details.

6. What We Do Not Collect

  • The records, entries, photos, and notes you create (these stay on your device, unless an app's optional cloud backup or sync is enabled)
  • Your name, email address, phone number, or postal address — our apps never ask for these. If you choose to write to us through the website's contact form, we obviously receive what you type there; see section 4.
  • Precise location for advertising or profiling
  • Your contacts, calendar, messages, or files
  • Voice or audio recordings

7. Deleting Your Data

Uninstalling a ClearStack app removes its on-device data. To delete the anonymous Crashlytics, Analytics, and Advertising ID data already sent to Google, use Google's data-deletion process through your Google Account. Most of our apps have no user accounts, so there is no server-side account to delete; the exceptions (SiteProof, TurnSnap) describe account deletion in their own policies.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)

If you reside in the EU, UK, or California you have the right to access, delete, and object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. For most of our apps we hold no personal data on our servers; Google holds anonymous device-level telemetry per its own policies. To exercise any right, email support@clearstackapps.com.

10. Apps With Their Own Policy

Most ClearStack apps are covered entirely by this base policy. The following apps additionally have their own dedicated policy because of the data they handle:
