ClearPool
Pool Chemistry Calculator & Water Test Log
Clear water, clear answers — without paying the pool store to read a test strip.
How It Works
Test
Enter your test-strip or kit readings — chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium, cyanuric acid, salt. Out-of-range values are flagged automatically.
Dose
Get the exact amount of chemical to add — bleach, cal-hypo, muriatic acid, soda ash, salt — in ounces, cups, pounds, or grams. No guessing.
Track
Log every test in one tap. Watch chlorine, pH, and alkalinity trends over 7, 30, or 90 days. Spot trouble before it shows up in the water.

Full Chemistry Calculator
Free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, salt — every common parameter in one screen.
Quick Dose
Most days you only need to adjust chlorine and pH. Quick Dose skips the full calculator — two readings in, two doses out.
Water Test Log
Log every water test with one tap. Date, time, all eight parameters, plus a notes field. Out-of-range values flagged automatically.
Trend Charts
See pH drift, chlorine consumption, and alkalinity stability over the last 7, 30, or 90 days. Tap any point to jump to that test.
Green Pool Guide
When the water turns green, get the shock dose for your pool volume, the order of operations, and safety warnings — all in one screen.
Hot Tub Mode
Switch to hot tub or spa and every ideal range adjusts — sanitizer, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and pH all use spa-specific values.
Multi-Pool Support
Track your main pool, the kids' pool, and the hot tub independently. Each one keeps its own volume, history, and trends.
Chemical Reference
Ideal ranges, dosing charts, compatibility warnings, saltwater guidance, troubleshooting cards — the reference you'd otherwise be Googling.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are the dosing calculations?
ClearPool uses dosing tables from published pool-care references and accounts for your pool volume in gallons or liters. Always verify chemical amounts with a second source before adding, and never mix pool chemicals. ClearPool is for estimation only, not a substitute for professional water analysis.
Which chemicals does it cover?
Liquid bleach, cal-hypo, dichlor, trichlor, muriatic acid, soda ash, baking soda, calcium chloride, cyanuric acid stabilizer, and pool salt — every common dosing chemical, in fluid ounces, cups, pounds, or grams.
Does it work for hot tubs and spas?
Yes. Switch the pool type to hot tub and ClearPool adjusts every ideal range and target accordingly — sanitizer, alkalinity, calcium hardness, and pH all use spa-specific values.
What is the green-pool guide?
When the water turns green, ClearPool gives you a step-by-step plan: shock dose for your exact pool volume, the order of operations, and the safety warnings — all in one screen, instead of Googling at midnight.
Can I track multiple pools?
Yes. Premium unlocks unlimited pool profiles — track your main pool, the kids' pool, and a hot tub independently. Each one keeps its own volume, history, and trends.
What's included in the free version?
The free version includes the full chemistry calculator with all chemicals, the water test log for one pool, and recent test history. Premium adds unlimited pools, unlimited history, full trend charts, and removes ads.
Does it work offline?
Yes. ClearPool works completely offline. All pool data is stored locally on your device. No account, no cloud sync, no tracking.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. Use the in-app backup to export a JSON file via the system share sheet — useful for moving between devices. Restore the same way on the new device.

Pool Chemistry, Without the Guesswork
If you've owned a pool for more than a season, you know the routine: dip a strip, squint at the colors, drive to the pool store, hand over a sample, get a paper printout with arrows and recommendations, then stand in the chemical aisle hoping you remember which jug you're supposed to buy. ClearPool replaces that whole loop with a calculator that knows your pool's volume, your chemical of choice, and the exact dose to bring each parameter back into range.
What ClearPool Calculates
ClearPool covers the eight parameters that matter for residential pool water: free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid (stabilizer), salt, water temperature, and total dissolved solids. For each one, it shows your current reading, the ideal range for your pool type, and — when the value is off — exactly how much of which chemical to add. The dosing math is based on published pool-care references and adjusts for your pool's volume in gallons or liters.
Free Chlorine and Sanitation
Free chlorine is what actually sanitizes the water. The ideal range for a residential pool is 1 to 3 parts per million. Too low and algae and bacteria take hold; too high and swimmers get red eyes and irritated skin. ClearPool calculates the dose for liquid bleach (sodium hypochlorite), cal-hypo (calcium hypochlorite), dichlor, and trichlor — and warns you when adding stabilizer-bearing chemicals will push your cyanuric acid out of range.
pH and Total Alkalinity
pH should sit between 7.4 and 7.6 — slightly alkaline, matching the pH of human tears so the water doesn't sting. Total alkalinity (80–120 ppm) is the buffer that keeps pH stable. ClearPool calculates muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate doses to lower pH, and soda ash (sodium carbonate) or baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) doses to raise pH or alkalinity. The app warns you when the two parameters are dragging each other in opposite directions.
Calcium Hardness, Cyanuric Acid, and Salt
Calcium hardness (200–400 ppm for plaster pools, lower for vinyl) prevents the water from etching surfaces or scaling equipment. Cyanuric acid (30–50 ppm in outdoor pools) is the chlorine stabilizer that keeps UV from burning off your sanitizer. Salt (3000–4000 ppm in saltwater pools) feeds the chlorine generator. ClearPool calculates the dose for each one and tells you which product to buy — calcium chloride, stabilizer granules, or pool salt.
The Green Pool Guide
Algae blooms turn pool water green overnight. The fix is shocking the pool with 5 to 10 times the normal chlorine dose, brushing the walls, running the filter for 24 to 48 hours, and balancing pH afterward — but doing it in the wrong order, or with the wrong chemical combination, can wreck equipment or hurt people. ClearPool's green-pool guide walks you through the recovery for your specific pool volume, with the safety warnings front and center.
Hot Tubs and Spas
Hot tubs are smaller, hotter, and have higher swimmer-to-water ratios than pools. Their ideal chemical ranges are different: bromine often replaces chlorine, alkalinity targets shift, and shock-doses are calculated per gallon rather than per thousand gallons. Switch ClearPool to hot tub mode and every range, target, and dose calculation adjusts automatically.
Multi-Pool Households
If you maintain a main pool, a kids' pool, and a hot tub, you've got three different volumes, three sanitation routines, and three sets of test history to track. ClearPool Premium lets you create unlimited pool profiles — each with its own volume, type, ideal ranges, and test log — so the dose for one doesn't get confused with another.
Privacy and Offline Use
Your pool's chemistry log is yours. ClearPool stores everything locally — no account, no cloud sync, no analytics. The app works offline, so you can run a calculation in the back yard with no signal. If you want to move data between devices, use the in-app backup to export a JSON file through the system share sheet, then import it on the other device.
Who Uses ClearPool?
ClearPool is built for the home pool owner who'd rather not pay the pool store $20 to read a test strip and recommend a chemical you already have in the garage. It's also useful for property managers handling multiple rental pools, vacation-home owners who only visit on weekends, and pool service techs who want to double-check their dosing math on the spot. Whether you've got a 10,000-gallon vinyl pool, a 30,000-gallon plaster pool, or a 400-gallon hot tub, ClearPool gives you the numbers you need to keep the water clear.
