SmokeFree Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 27, 2026
1. Introduction
ClearStack Apps ("we", "us", "our") operates the SmokeFree mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use SmokeFree. SmokeFree is a private quit-smoking and quit-vaping companion with a quit clock, cravings toolkit (4-7-8 breathing, ride-the-wave, CBT thought records), NRT step-down tracker, milestones, a non-punitive slip log, journal, and a built-in crisis-line directory.
Short version: Your quit date, cravings, slip log, journal, NRT log, and money-saved data stay on your device — they are never uploaded to our servers. Anonymous crash reports and ad data are sent to Google so we can fix bugs and run ads on the free tier. Pro subscribers and lifetime purchasers see no ads at all.
2. Information We Collect
2a. Information You Enter — Stored On Your Device Only
The following remains on your phone and is never transmitted to ClearStack Apps:
- Quit date, addiction type (smoking or vaping), daily-use count, and pack/pod cost
- Craving log entries (intensity, trigger tag, CBT thought records, ride-the-wave duration, outcome)
- Slip log entries (date, amount, note)
- NRT tracker entries (product type, dose, schedule, step-down plan)
- Milestones unlocked and NOPE pledge calendar
- Journal entries
- Quit-buddy nicknames and phone numbers (used only for the in-app "call buddy" shortcut; never uploaded)
- Goals (money targets, days-smoke-free targets)
- Settings (reminder cadence, theme, language)
2b. Automatically Collected — Sent To Google
By default, these SDKs run inside SmokeFree and send anonymised data to Google LLC.
- Firebase Crashlytics: Crash logs, stack traces, device model, OS version, and app version. Used to identify and fix bugs.
- Firebase Analytics: Anonymous app interactions (screen views, feature usage events), device model, OS, app version, approximate location derived from IP. Used to understand how the app is used.
- Firebase Remote Config: Used solely to hot-patch the crisis-line directory if a national helpline number changes. No data is sent from your device.
- Google AdMob (free tier only): Advertising ID, device model, OS, approximate location, ad interaction events. Used to serve banner ads on the Home and Milestones screens only. Pro subscribers and lifetime purchasers see no ads and AdMob is not initialised for them. Ads are never shown on the Cravings, Stats, Slip log, Paywall, breathwork, CBT, ride-the-wave, or crisis-line screens.
2c. Purchase Information
Subscription and lifetime purchase status is verified by Google Play Billing. SmokeFree stores only the active SKU identifier (e.g. smokefree_sub_monthly, smokefree_sub_yearly, smokefree_lifetime) and expiry date locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, SmokeFree does not collect or transmit:
- Your quit date, cravings, slip log, NRT log, journal entries, or buddy contacts (these stay 100% on your device)
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, address)
- Health records or medical history
- Financial information
- Precise location data
- Contacts (other than the buddy nicknames you manually enter), calendar, messages, files, or other media
- Voice or audio data
4. Data Retention
Cravings, slip log, NRT entries, milestones, and journal entries remain on your device indefinitely or until you delete them. There is no automatic deletion.
Anonymous Crashlytics and Analytics data is retained by Google per Firebase's data retention policy. Advertising ID data is retained by AdMob per Google's Privacy Policy.
5. How to Delete Your Data
5a. Delete All In-App Data
Open SmokeFree → Settings → Privacy & Data → Delete all my data. This permanently deletes every craving, slip, NRT entry, milestone, journal entry, quit-buddy contact, goal, and trial state from your device. This cannot be undone.
5b. Export Your Data First
Before deleting, you can export everything as a JSON file via Settings → Privacy & Data → Export all my data.
5c. Delete the App Entirely
Uninstalling SmokeFree removes all on-device data. Because nothing is on our servers, uninstalling effectively wipes everything.
5d. Delete Telemetry Data Held by Google
To delete Crashlytics, Analytics, and Advertising ID data already sent to Google, follow Google's data deletion process. ClearStack Apps cannot delete Google-held data on your behalf — it must be requested by you through your Google Account.
5e. Request Account-Level Deletion
SmokeFree does not have user accounts, so there is no server-side account to delete. If you need confirmation that no data exists for your device on our servers, email support@clearstackapps.com.
6. Children's Privacy
SmokeFree is rated for users 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. If you believe a child has used SmokeFree, contact support@clearstackapps.com.
7. Not a Medical Device
SmokeFree is a self-tracking quit-smoking companion. It does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure nicotine dependence or any other medical condition. It is not a substitute for professional medical care, smoking-cessation counselling, or NRT prescribed by a clinician. If you are in crisis, contact your local helpline — SmokeFree includes a built-in 16-country crisis-line directory accessible from every screen.
8. Third Parties
- Google LLC — Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics, Remote Config) and AdMob. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Play Billing — Subscription and lifetime purchase processing. Google Payments Privacy Notice.
9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA / UK GDPR)
If you reside in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you. For SmokeFree, the answer is: none on our servers. Crashlytics and Analytics hold anonymous device-level data per Google's policies.
- Rectify inaccurate data — same caveat; nothing to rectify on our end.
- Delete your data — see Section 5.
- Object to processing — uninstall the app, or upgrade to Pro to disable AdMob.
- Portability — export your data as JSON via Settings → Privacy & Data.
- Withdraw consent — uninstall the app.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced in app release notes.
