Tend Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

ClearStack Apps ("we", "us", "our") operates the Tend mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use Tend. Tend is a calm self-care companion — you care for a small creature by taking care of yourself through one-tap care actions, a daily mood check-in, breathing and grounding exercises, and a private journal.

Short version: Your journal entries, mood check-ins, habit data, and journal photos stay on your device — they are never uploaded to our servers. Anonymous crash reports and ad data are sent to Google so we can fix bugs and run ads on the free tier.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Information You Enter — Stored On Your Device Only

The following remains on your phone and is never transmitted to ClearStack Apps:

  • Self-care actions and habit logs (hydration, movement, breathing, journaling, sleep, medication, and any custom habits you create)
  • Daily mood check-ins and reflections
  • Journal entries
  • Photos you attach to journal entries (the photo itself stays in your device storage)
  • Your companion, Seeds balance, and any cosmetics you own
  • Settings (reminder preferences, theme, language)

2b. Automatically Collected — Sent To Google

By default, these SDKs run inside Tend and send anonymised data to Google LLC:

  • Firebase Crashlytics: Crash logs, stack traces, device model, OS version, and app version. Used to identify and fix bugs.
  • Firebase Analytics: Anonymous app interactions (screen views, feature usage events), device model, OS, app version, approximate location derived from IP. Used to understand how the app is used.
  • Google AdMob (free tier only): Advertising ID, device model, OS, approximate location, ad interaction events. Used to serve banner ads. Subscribers and lifetime purchasers see no ads and AdMob is not initialised for them.

2c. Purchase Information

Subscription and lifetime purchase status is verified by Google Play Billing. Tend stores only the active product identifier (e.g. tend_sub_monthly, tend_sub_yearly, tend_lifetime, tend_seeds_small, tend_seeds_large) and any related expiry date locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

To be explicit, Tend does not collect or transmit:

  • Your journal entries, journal photos, mood check-ins, or habit data (these stay 100% on your device)
  • Personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, address)
  • Health records or medical history
  • Financial information
  • Precise location data
  • Contacts, calendar, messages, files, or other media
  • Voice or audio data

4. Data Retention

Your journal entries, mood check-ins, habit data, and companion progress remain on your device indefinitely or until you delete them. There is no automatic deletion.

Anonymous Crashlytics and Analytics data is retained by Google according to Firebase's data retention policy. Advertising ID data is retained by AdMob per Google's Privacy Policy.

5. How to Delete Your Data

5a. Delete All In-App Data

Open Tend → Settings and use the erase / reset data option. This permanently deletes your journal entries, mood check-ins, habit logs, journal photo references, companion progress, and trial state from your device. This cannot be undone.

5b. Delete the App Entirely

Uninstalling Tend removes all on-device data. Because nothing is on our servers, uninstalling effectively wipes everything.

5c. Delete Telemetry Data Held by Google

To delete Crashlytics, Analytics, and Advertising ID data already sent to Google, follow Google's data deletion process. ClearStack Apps cannot delete Google-held data on your behalf — it must be requested by you through your Google Account.

5d. Request Account-Level Deletion

Tend does not have user accounts, so there is no server-side account to delete. If you need confirmation that no data exists for your device on our servers, email support@clearstackapps.com.

6. Children's Privacy

Tend is rated for users 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. If you believe a child has used Tend, contact support@clearstackapps.com.

7. Not a Medical Device

Tend supports a self-care routine. It does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any medical or mental-health condition, and it is not a substitute for professional mental-health care. If you are in crisis, contact your local helpline — crisis support resources are always one tap away inside the app.

9. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA / UK GDPR)

If you reside in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you. For Tend, the answer is: none on our servers. Crashlytics and Analytics hold anonymous device-level data per Google's policies.
  • Rectify inaccurate data — same caveat; nothing to rectify on our end.
  • Delete your data — see Section 5.
  • Object to advertising processing — upgrade to any paid tier to remove AdMob, or uninstall the app.
  • Withdraw consent — uninstall the app.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced in app release notes.
